Similar in appearance to its neighbouring cheese, Saint-Felicien, Saint-Marcellin became a royal favourite after – allegedly – being fed to King Louis XI by locals after he became lost during a hunting trip.

Characteristics: mould-ripened bloom; creamy texture; mild, slightly salty when young maturing to yeastiness with intense nutty, fruity flavour.

Best with: marries well with light wines.
